Important Dates for 2016 entry!
* Use these dates as a reference if you are planning to apply in the near future.
15th October 2015 (6.00pm UTC) : UCAS application submission deadline
November 2015 - February 2016 : Interview invitations
January 2016 - Mid-May 2016 : Offer
Stage 1: UCAS form
All applications, including those of overseas students and mature students, must be made through UCAS.
We have minimum academic requirements (below) and also require the UKCAT exam to be sat in the year of application.
* The list below has been tailored to include only the common qualifications a Malaysian would use for application. For the full list, please visit the university website.

Minimum academic requirements
1. A-Levels
You must have studied four AS Levels including Biology (or Human Biology) and Chemistry, and have continued three of these subjects, including Chemistry, to A2 Level. These should be completed in a two year period. The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is considered in lieu of a fourth AS subject.
Our standard offer is based on performance at A2 level and is now AAA.
No additional credit is given for taking more than the recommended number of subjects. If you study Mathematics and Further Mathematics, you may only count one of these grades towards your potential offer.
If you are taking a language as one of your subjects we will ask for a declaration that you are not a native speaker of that language.
General Studies and Critical Thinking are not accepted.
2. International Baccalaureate (IB)
We also accept the International Baccalaureate, for which we require at least 36 points overall, including three Higher Level subjects (including Chemistry and Biology), and three Standard Level subjects. Each subject must be passed with a minimum of six points. We do not consider bonus points
3. GCSE
You must have achieved at least a grade C in English Language, Mathematics and Double Science. We do not specify a minimum number of A* grades at GCSE. However, we do take GCSE performance into consideration when selecting applicants for interview, as competition for our places is so intense. Our Scoring of Applications 2016 document explains how GCSEs are taken into account.
*Note : SPM is treated as GCSE.
4. For Graduates
We will consider graduate applicants from other disciplines as well as those from Biological Sciences or Health Sciences. You must have achieved or be predicted a minimum of an Upper Second Class Honours in your *first degree in order to be considered. In addition, applicants who have not studied a science based degree or A Level must have at least a B grade in two GCSE science subjects (chemistry, biology or physics or double science).
*Please note that we will not consider a second degree, Masters or PhD in lieu of obtaining a 2:1 or 1st in your first degree.
*Graduates Deferring :
We will not consider deferred entry from graduate entry applicants. If after interview an offer is made, and then for financial or other reasons an applicant wishes to defer we would instead consider their reapplication for entry the following year. Provided their academic and UKCAT score remained competitive we would make them another offer without asking them to repeat the interview.
Please note that we are unable to give any indication of the likelihood of success of a subsequent application as this will depend on the quality of all applications received.

Your UCAS form should detail your academic qualifications (achieved and pending), a current academic reference and a personal statement, plus details of any employment. Although not routinely read your personal statement may be assessed in some situations and so should be clear and concise outlining your ambitions and experiences, and how they have shaped your personal development. Medical work experience is not essential but you should be able to demonstrate that you have undertaken some kind of work where you are able to communicate with the public.
From the information on your UCAS form we will calculate a numerical score. The highest scoring applicants will be invited to and interview.
Leicester provides a document which describes exactly how applicants are scored, so use this to your advantage!
Stage 2: Interview
The interview will take the format of multiple mini interviews (MMIS). The process will last just over an hour, and through a number of stations (manned and unmanned) the attributes laid down in the GMC document 'Tomorrow's Doctors' will be assessed, eg communication, motivation, empathy, comprehension and numeracy.
Based on consideration of both your UCAS form and your interview, we may then make you an offer.
As a reference (From 2016 application process)
Leicester will begin to send out interview invitations by email in late November 2015 and this will be an ongoing process until the end of February 2016. Emails will be sent from medoffice@le.ac.uk - please check that these emails are not going into your junk mail folder!
Leicester's interviews use the Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI) style, and consist of eight individual mini-interviews or 'stations' which will assess your:
Each station will be scored and you will be ranked on the basis of those scores. Where two or more applicants are equally ranked, your UCAS form score may be used as a tie-breaker.
Interviews for 2016 entry to the Medical School are scheduled to take place on the following dates:
Weds 16 and Thurs 17 December 2015
Tues 5, Weds 6, Thurs 7, Tues 12, Weds 13 and Thurs 14 January 2016
W/C 15 February 2016 (provisional dates: Weds 17 and Thurs 18)
* Alteration to dates possible. Please check website for up-to-date information and how to change your interview date.
On the day of your interview you will have an opportunity to tour the Leicester Campus with a current student who will tell you about the social life, accommodation, facilities etc.
Stage 3: Offer
Your offer will be conditional if you are still awaiting the results of your degree, A-levels, IBacc or equivalent.
After your interview, each station will be scored and you will be ranked on the basis of these scores. Your UCAS form may also be examined by our selectors. On the basis of a thorough consideration of these, one of three decisions will be made:
The timing of offers can vary from early January to mid-May. If you do not hear from them immediately after your interview, this does not necessarily mean you have been rejected.
Additional Information
Age on Entry
Applicants must be 18 years old by 1 October of their entry year. This is due to patient contact from Semester 1.
Applicants who will not be 18 years old by the above date may still apply and we will consider their application in the normal way. However, we will ask such applicants to defer starting until our age requirement has been met.

Who is not eligible to apply?
We're sorry, but because of the nature of the course...
We do not take applications through clearing.
You cannot transfer from a Medical Degree at another university, or apply to Leicester if you have started or completed another Medical Degree elsewhere. This is because of the fully integrated nature of the medical curriculum.
Your application will not be considered if you are re-sitting the whole of your AS-level year or your A2-levels, unless you have already contacted us about significant mitigating circumstances and been given permission to apply. AS module re-sits within the two years are acceptable. If you previously held a conditional firm offer with us and are now repeating your A-levels because of major mitigating circumstances we may consider a re-application, although our recommendation in this case will often be to take an Honours Degree and then apply as a graduate.
