The Foundation in Science/International Foundation Programme for Science (IFPS) is the first phase in a two phase medical foundation programme. The IFPS is a programme that is intended to be a direct pathway to undergraduate medicine (alternative to A levels/IB or similar). In the IFPS, students will study Chemistry and Biology modules, as well as an English language module to allow international students to improve their English speaking skills before entering 1st year medicine. Essentially, the IFPS was designed to give students a head-start in their medical degree.
Entry Requirements
This programme is aimed at students with high school qualifications (eg. SPM or IGCSEs). There are no specific subject requirements for this programme (although they do ask for 'good grades' in science and English subjects). Instead, students are asked to apply first using mock/trials results as well as submission of a personal statement. They will also be asked to take an entrance exam that involves mathematics and English writing, and lastly, there will be an interview with the director of the programme. After going through this process, the university will then decide whether or not to offer you a conditional offer. This conditional offer will include the grades required for entry based on the subjects taken in high school.
The offer will also require the applicant to take the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam and obtain a score of 6.0 or higher.
Progression to Phase 2
The second phase in the foundation programme is the International Foundation in Medicine (IFM) programme. To progress to the IFM programme, students must obtain a grade of 11.0 (out of 20.0) in all university modules (eg. Chemistry and Biology) while attaining a grade of 14.0 in the English language module.
